WPA Poster

When creating this poster I took inspiration from several different WPA posters from the WWII era. First of all, I noticed that many of the posters used images that were very simplified. Images of people especially were made up of basic shapes with little detail. Also, when choosing the colors for my poster I tried to imitate the muted hues of the posters from the 30's. Another thing that stood out to me about the posters was the bold text. The text was usually very oversized and easy to read, it is often the first thing you see when looking at these posters, especially the ones that are trying to convey a strong message. I tried to create the same effect when designing the text for my poster.

3ds Max Renderings

In some of the images the lights are black. I changed the settings on the materials and lights several different times and could not get the lights to look right. They seem to be emitting light above and below the fixture, just some of the faces turned out dark.

Inspiring Images

These are a few images I found that I really liked. I think that each one creates an interesting composition, although they are all quite different.

Computing in Architectural Design

Computers have become a very important tool in the design world. They allow us to do things more quickly and easily than ever before. Programs such as SketchUp and FormZ allow designers to bring their ideas into three dimensional forms without actually having to build something. This gives designers the ability to work out many problems in their design before they begin building. Also, programs such as AutoCAD, are useful tools for creating construction drawings. It is much more efficient to create drawings with CAD than it is to draw them out by hand. With CAD changes can be made quickly and easily.

Computers also allow us to communicate more effectively. Through the use of email and the internet we can stay connected to people all over the world. The internet is a great tool for staying up to date with what is happening in design in other countries. Also, we can easily create digital presentations to share ideas using programs such as Microsoft Power Point. And programs like Photoshop allow us to easily create graphic designs for posters and flyers, which serve as another way to spread ideas and information.

In the future I believe that designers will rely on technology more and more. I think that computer programs will become more and more advanced to serve the needs of those working in the design field. However, while computers may serve as the primary tool of designers, it is the designers that are needed to think up new and interesting ways of building and constructing. Computers will never be able to think creatively the way that people can and therefore they will never replace the jobs of designers.
